Interdisciplinary research on psychological trauma

Trauma Research Laboratory

We reveal multidimensional consequences of traumatic experiences, from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to positive consequences of trauma contributing of the phenomenon of post-traumatic growth (PTG)

Our aim
Sharing science-based knowledge on trauma

Our main aim is to expand and promote reliable science-based knowledge on psychotraumatology in Poland.

Interdisciplinary research

We are an interdisciplinary research team studying mechanisms and consequences of mental trauma experiences. We combine our scientific research with experience in clinical practice, to better understand how people cope with traumatic experiences.

Negative and positive trauma consequences

We study both obvious adverse consequences of traumatic experiences, in the form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as paradoxical, positive consequences of traumatic events, contributing to the phenomenon of post-traumatic growth (PTG).

Post-traumatic stress disorder in Poland

We investigate why the PTSD level is so high in Poland. Our studies showed that nearly 19% of Poles may suffer from PTSD, and this is one of the highest ratios in the world.

How does trauma affect our body?

We study mental processes leading to psychosomatic disorders. In this context, we also analyse hidden forms of violence in families, such as parentification, i.e. a situation when a child is forced to take on the role of an adult.

Consequences of childhood trauma

We study long-term effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in adulthood, with a particular focus on the complex post-traumatic stress disorder (complex-PTSD). We analyse both the occurrence of this disorder, and its mental mechanisms.

Trauma and nutritional behaviours

We are interested in a relationship between adverse childhood experiences and nutritional behaviours in adulthood. We also study relations between problems with controlling emotions post traumatic experiences and emotional eating and development of obesity.

Team of experts

The TraumaLab team is a group of researchers who for years have been studying the issues of traumatic stress in Poland, in scientific, educational, and clinical setups. Explore detailed areas of our studies, implemented projects, and scientific publications.
